However, to join the Dispora, you can simply chose an already hosted pod on the network. Diaspora also supports @mentions and re-shares of posts, features which all adds up to an intricate communication and sharing system, distributed across the globe.

The goal of the project is to build a free and open source social media platform that respects user privacy. Okuna is still in closed beta and provides registration via invites only.
