An ethical social network for a brighter tomorrow. Okuna launched on the scene in 2018 with a Kickstarter campaign under the name Openbook, where they succeeded to raise over $50,000. The goal of the project is to build a free and open source social media platform that respects user privacy. Okuna is still in closed beta and provides registration via invites only.

Diaspora is a privacy-aware, distributed, open source social network developed by the Diaspora Foundation. The social network is built up of distributed pods, that can be self-hosted by anyone. Diaspora also supports @mentions and re-shares of posts, features which all adds up to an intricate communication and sharing system, distributed across the globe.
